J. Ross Hutchison, a native of Columbia, Kentucky, joined Smith Cashion & Orr in 2015. His practice focuses primarily on representing contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, owners, and developers in the areas of construction law. This representation includes contract negotiation, contract drafting, construction and commercial litigation.
Mr. Hutchison received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Kentucky in 2009. In 2012, Mr. Hutchison was awarded his Juris Doctor degree from Mercer University School of Law in Macon, Georgia. While at Mercer, Mr. Hutchison partnered with a national law firm and Georgia Legal Services to develop a community education initiative related to residential condemnation throughout Middle Georgia to educate underprivileged residents concerning their rights as it concerned condemnation. During law school, Mr. Hutchison was also a member of the Mercer Law Sports and Entertainment Law Society, served as Editor-in-chief of the Mercer Law Free Press and was honored to be named a member of the William A. Bootle American Inn of the Court.
Mr. Hutchison was admitted to the Tennessee Bar in 2012. In addition to being a member of the Tennessee Bar, Mr. Hutchison is also admitted to practice in the United State District Court for the Middle District of Tennessee and is a member of the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel. Mr. Hutchison has also received a certificate in mediation through the Intercultural Negotiation and Mediation program conducted by the Institut für Anwaltsrecht at the Humboldt University Law Faculty in Berlin, Germany.
In addition, Mr. Hutchison serves as a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. Mr. Hutchison is also involved in numerous local and national associations. He is currently a member of the American, Tennessee, and Nashville Bar Associations as well as the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel and the Associated General Contractors. Mr. Hutchison currently serves on the board of directors for AGC’s Construction Leadership Counsel.
