Jefferson
C. Orr (Jeff), born in 1961 and a native of Nashville, Tennessee, is
a founding partner of Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC. Mr. Orr practices
principally in the areas of architect and engineer professional
liability, construction and commercial litigation, and asset
recovery/subrogation law.
Mr. Orr received his Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical
Engineering Technology from Western Kentucky University in 1984.
During college, Mr. Orr worked as a co-op engineer for a large
mechanical contracting company on several commercial and industrial
projects.
In 1987, Mr. Orr earned his Juris Doctor degree from Samford
University's Cumberland School of Law where he served on the Honor
Council. After graduating from law school, Mr. Orr practiced law
with the Nashville firm of Manier, Herod, Hollabaugh & Smith until
co-founding Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC in 1998. For over fifteen
years, Mr. Orr has represented contractors, design professionals,
owners, and property insurers in a wide range of matters involving
design defects, construction defects, delay and inefficiency claims,
and all types of casualty losses.
Mr. Orr has substantial trial experience. He has litigated in courts
throughout the Southeast region at both the State and Federal level.
Mr. Orr has also participated in numerous arbitrations as both a
litigant and an arbitrator.
Mr. Orr is active in several construction industry organizations. He
is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the
Associated General Contractors, and the Associated Builders and
Contractors. Mr. Orr is also a member of the American Bar
Association (Construction Law Forum), Tennessee and Nashville Bar
Associations, and the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel
(Executive Committee, 2005).
Mr. Orr has co-authored several publications relating to
construction law, including Tennessee Law for Design Professionals,
Tennessee Construction Defect Claims, Tennessee Construction Law,
and Lien Laws for Design Professionals. Mr. Orr has also lectured
extensively on issues involving design professionals, contractors,
and sureties in seminars sponsored by the Associated Builders and
Contractors, the Associated General Contractors, Lorman Education
Services, and the National Business Institute.
