Joe Welborn, born in 1972 and a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, is
a partner with Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC. Mr. Welborn’s practice
areas include construction litigation, commercial litigation, and
general civil litigation.
Mr. Welborn received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College
in 1995. In 1998, Mr. Welborn obtained his Juris Doctor degree, Cum
Laude, from Tulane Law School. While at Tulane, Mr. Welborn served
as a Legal Research and Writing Senior Fellow.
Following law school, Mr. Welborn accepted an associate position
with the Slater Law Firm in New Orleans, Louisiana. While at the
Slater Law Firm, Mr. Welborn devoted his practice to railroad and
transportation law, products liability and complex civil litigation.
In 2001, Mr. Welborn joined Smith Cashion & Orr, PLC as an
associate.
Mr. Welborn was admitted to the Louisiana bar in 1998, and to the
Tennessee bar in 2001. Mr. Welborn has also been admitted to
practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Western, Middle and
Eastern Districts of Louisiana, the U.S. District Court for the
Middle District of Tennessee and the United States Court of Appeals
for the Fifth and Sixth Circuits.
Mr. Welborn is currently a member of the Nashville, Tennessee,
Louisiana and American Bar Associations. Mr. Welborn is also a
founding member of the Tennessee Association of Construction Counsel
and serves as a guest lecturer for the “Construction Law and
Contract” class at Vanderbilt University’s College of Engineering.
